True orthodontic emergencies are rare. Most problems are minor and can be handled at home until we can see you. If you're ever unsure, call us: Vicksburg (601) 638-8230, Natchez (601) 446-5320. After hours, our answering service can help.
If you have a facial injury, severe swelling, or trouble breathing, go to the emergency room or call 911.
Loose bracket or band
If it's still attached to the wire, leave it in place and cover it with orthodontic wax if it irritates. Call us so we can plan the repair. If it comes off completely, save it and bring it to your appointment.
Poking wire
Use a pencil eraser or cotton swab to gently push the wire flat, or cover the end with wax. If it still pokes, call us – don't cut the wire yourself unless we've told you how.
Sore teeth or mouth
Some soreness after new braces or an adjustment is normal. Rinse with warm salt water (a teaspoon in a cup of water), eat soft foods, and use an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed.
Lost or broken retainer or aligner
Call us promptly. Teeth can shift quickly without a retainer. If you wear aligners, move to your previous or next tray as we direct until a replacement is ready.
